Última A new northern distribution limit of Abrocoma bennettii (Rodentia, Abrocomidae) in the coastal Atacama desert, Paposo, north of Chile Mastozool. neotrop. Guzmán,Jonathan A.; Sielfeld,Walter. Abrocoma bennettii is a relatively robust abrocomid rodent endemic to Chile. It is distributed from approximately 27°18'S - 70°25'W in the north (Atacama) to 36°00'S - 73°7'W in the south (BíoBío). We report the finding of a cranium in excellent conditions, which is the first record of this species in the coastal shrubby Mediterranean desert of the Antofagasta Region. The record of A. bennettii in the locality of Paposo (25º00'S - 70º27'W; 648 m) represents an extension of about 280 km to the northeast of its previously known distribution in the Atacama Region of Chile. The Choros Archipelago includes three islands: Choros, Damas and Gaviota and it is part of The Pingüino de Humboldt National Reserve. These insular ecosystems are within the Chilean transitional coastal (25°-32° S). Prior researches in the archipelago reported a species of Tenebrionidae (Coleoptera) endemic to Choros island (29°15' S, 71°32' W) described as Gyriosomus granulipennis Pizarro-Araya & Flores. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the vulnerability of this species in the archipelago through Conservation Priority Index (CPI), Environmental Ministery of Chile (MMA) and Red List of IUCN. Guadalupe is an oceanic island located 260 km off the coast of Baja California, and is one of the few places of the Sonoran Desert coasts with scarped coastal topography and frequent fog. With the aim to identify the effect of fog on the community of the palm forest (palmar) of Brahea edulis located in the northern tip of the island: (1) we analyzed the richness and composition of vascular plants in the palmar compared to the remainder of the island, and (2) we analyzed the altitudinal variation of the abundance of palms, herbs and mosses to identify if there is altitudinal variation of the vegetation.
